Radioactive buttons

January 2nd, 2011

CSS3 has given us a number of new tools to make beautiful, responsive and interactive web experiences. Among the improvements are CSS animations, which allow us to animate elements without having to turn to flash or javascript.

Here’s a quick look at how to make a radioactive button like this one (if you’re viewing this page in Safari, Chrome or another webkit browser), using only CSS3 and the necessary markup:

Hello world!

October 19th, 2010

Welcome to WordPress. This is your first post.

Not really. It’s my first post in quite a while, though. I thought it might be a good idea to welcome you all to the 12th version of Antidecaf.com.

This time the whole site is a bit of an experiment and a work in progress. I’m playing around with some (relatively) new structural tags from HTML5, as well as some (relatively) new styling techniques from CSS3. I still have a lot of tweaking yet to do and I realize everything does not look perfect in every browser. Chances are I won’t bother fixing every display bug in older versions of IE either. But still: feel free to leave a comment if something annoys you, or should annoy me. I’ll try to share my experiences along the way.

5 great looking websites about beer

Mmm, beer. Having showcased some neat coffee related websites, I figured I’d pay tribute to another one of my favorite beverages this time. It proved to be a bit harder than I expected.

While researching for this article, I found that quite a few of the big beer websites have some very annoying features. Many of them are so called interactive presentations entirely built in flash, they take a long time to load, and demand you type your date of birth before allowing you to enter. I don’t know how that’s going to keep underage visitors out, but it will certainly piss some older visitors off. The Corona website never finished loading. Guinness wouldn’t let me in at all despite the fact that I’m 28 (and a half!) years old. In stead, they redirected me to The Century Council, an organization dedicated to eliminate drunk driving and underage drinking. Are they trying to insult me?

Fortunately, not all beer related websites are utter crap. Check out these 5 good looking counterparts.

April 12th, 2009

As some of my visitors may have already figured out on their own, I love coffee. I also love web design, and as far as I’m concerned, the two subjects go hand in hand. While surfing for inspiration and refueling with fresh brewed coffee, I’ve come across these hot looking website designs inspired by, er, coffee.
